Spring Piglets

We buy are piglets from top local-breeders in March. If you are interested in purchasing a whole or half pig from us, you will need to provide a deposit by March 1st. When they piglets arrive at our farm, they are separated from the rest of our farm animals for several weeks. They live in a pig pen located near our garden area filled with stray, shelter, mud and everything a young piglet can enjoy. During this phase of their life we offer them a high-protein ground grain mix that is GMO-free and locally sourced. They periodically receive the highest quality organic herbal dewormer and introduce them to fresh garden-grown sprouted greens and over-ripened organic fruits and vegetables. The piglets are very cute and interactive at this time and are a kid-favorite in early spring. We offer a great price on top-quality, grass-fed, pasture-raised pork! Our whole pigs cost $750 and our half pigs cost just $375. We don't charge you more for half pig because we are perfectly OK buying the other half for our family! We do require a $60 deposit on a half-pig and a $120 deposit on a whole-pig. This does not include butchering or processing fees which our discussed below.

Summer Hogs

Summertime is a great time for our hogs. As the weather warms we begin to let the pigs into the pasture. As soon as the are large enough to comfortably get along with the goats, cows and horses we leave them free-range all day. The pigs find their own mud spots and areas to burrow. The do a great job revitalizing our prairies and they rotate through different prairies all summer but still return "home" to their pen for nightly feedings most evenings. Our summer hogs look nothing like the same-age hogs you see at county fairs. Our hogs are lean and muscular and very small in comparison to a hog that lays in a cage all day with constant access to slop. Sure a farmer could produce more poundage this way, but at what cost? The pig has no life, it eats and poops in the same place, requires antibiotics, produces fatty-tasteless meat, and is a non-sustainable consumer on a farm. Our pigs, on the other hand, have the life nature intended, they make an amazing positive impact on our soil profile and produce the most amazing pork we have every tasted.

Fall Hogs

By October the pigs have acquired some good size and are closing in on 200 lbs. At this time they also provide an important service to our farm: garden prep. We let the pigs eat and till all our summer gardens during October. They do a great job turning over and clearing out everything in the gardens. We also run a chicken flock in the garden areas with them to work in the pig manure, eat bugs an fine till the soil. The pigs go to the butcher at the end of the October. We will contact you and ask you to call the butcher with your cut instructions at that time.
